Ai vs. Handmade Card Challenge: Who Made It Best? 🐢💕
Do you ever struggle to come up with project designs using your Stampin’ Up! supplies? This week I used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help me design this week’s Playing in the Rain card. I thought it would be fun to make this into an AI card-making contest. Who do you think did it best? Cast your vote in the comments at the bottom of this post to decide the winner! 🗳️
Want to give AI a try to help you design your next project? I used ChatGPT and selected the Image generator (drop down menu). The key to getting good image suggestions is giving clear directions. Think of it as providing directions to your personal image assistant.
For my Playing in the Rain card, I asked ChatGPT to provide an image for an A2 (4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″) card size in portrait orientation using a stamp and die set similar* to the Playing in the Rain set by Stampin’ Up!. Card should include at least 3 layers and have some background elements to add visual interest.
*Remember AI can not use copyrighted images, so it won’t be able to recreate exact Stampin’ Up! images but can substitute with general images.
The Challenge: Ai Designs a Card — I Recreate it with Playing in the Rain
For this fun card-making challenge, I asked AI to generate a card design using images similar to the Playing in the Rain stamp set and dies from Stampin’ Up!® — a fun Springtime set!
The AI-created card featured:
🐢 A cute turtle as the focal point
☁️ Puffy clouds floating above
✨ An embossed background for texture
❤️ A large heart behind the turtle and clouds
📝 A sweet sentiment
Sounds pretty adorable, right? But could I bring this digital design to life with stamps, ink, and paper? Challenge accepted!
My Handmade Card Using Playing in the Rain Stamps & Dies
I pulled out my Playing in the Rain stamp set and coordinating dies to recreate the AI’s vision — with a handmade twist, of course!
Here’s what I included on my card:
- The cheerful turtle stamped and colored
- Die-cut clouds for dimension
- An embossed background for added texture
- A bold heart layered behind the scene
- A fun sentiment to tie it all together
I love how this card turned out! It was such a fun creative stretch to interpret the AI’s design in my handmade style.

Why I Love This Challenge
This was such a fun way to combine technology with creativity. AI might be able to generate cute ideas — but nothing beats the heart and joy that goes into a handmade card. Plus, this challenge gave me new inspiration for using the Playing in the Rain bundle in fresh ways!
Now It’s Time to Vote! 🎨🤖

I like yours the best.
Thanks, Mary! It was fun to get some inspiration from AI, but the SU products really make it pop. 🙂
Al can’t even come close to being better than you and your card!!! By far you are the Winner 🎉
Thanks a bunch, Sandy! I enjoyed the challenge of taking the AI concept and turning it into something a bit more “me.”
I like your card better! The AI card had too much embellishment.
Thanks, Linda! I had fun showing how inspiration can come from anywhere—even AI! Glad you enjoyed the finished card, though.
I liked yours the best . Ribbon really
added a lot . This was a fun idea 😄
Thanks, Linda! I’m so glad you liked the way I interpreted the AI’s design—it was such a fun experiment.
Debra, I like yours the best. I like the EF you used and the addition of the bow. Both make a big difference.
Aw, thank you, Becky! I’m so happy you liked it. I had so much fun adding those little touches—something about that embossing and a tiny bow just made the card feel “finished” to me.
AI card is cute, but I definitely like your card the best!
Yay, team handmade! 😊 I’m so glad you liked my version—there’s just something special about the real deal. Thanks, Sandy!
I like them both but nothing can beat an original!
Thanks, Jen! The AI card was cute, but there’s just something about the real deal. 😊
Debra, your’s is the winning card for me. I still love playing with this stamp & die set.
Thanks, Colleen! The AI gave me a fun jumping-off point, but I really enjoyed making it my own with the Playing in the Rain set. It’s such a cute set. Sad to see it’s retiring.
You’re the winner! Your card has a more mature look that I prefer and can be used for any age.
Aww, thank you, Elaine! I had so much fun putting my spin on the AI design.
I also liked yours the best – to me it was more sophisticated than the AI version.
Thanks, Cindy! I’m so glad you liked my version! I had a blast bringing that little turtle to life with some ink and love.
This was a great idea. AI is good but you are the winner. And that stamping up turtle is so adorable.
Thank you so much, Lana! I had such a fun time creating my version of the turtle card. That little guy just makes me smile every time!
Your card is the best and the winner. If i didn’t see your card that one is good too.
Thanks, Rita! The AI version was a great inspiration, but the SU products really brought it to life.
Yours is much better!!
Thanks, Michelle! It was a fun challenge—AI gave me the idea, but the stamps gave it life.
YOU WIN!
Thanks, Patricia! You’re so sweet! Glad you like my version of the AI card. It is hard to beat the cuteness of SU products in real life!
